Making sambar powder at home is pretty simple...Here goes the easy to make recipe...
Ingredients:
Split bengal gram: 75 grams
Split black gram: 50 grams
Coriander seeds: 100 grams
Fenugreek seeds:25 grams(methi)
Dry red chillies: 15 to 20
Asafoetida: 5 grams
Oil:2 to 3 tbsp
Preparation:
Heat a non stick pan and add a little oil and fry the coriander seeds,fenugreek seeds and pulses seperately till light brown and the spices release their aroma..
Remove from the pan and immediately place on grease absorbent paper...
Now add a little more oil in the pan...
Fry the red chillies and asafoetida seperately for about 1 to 2 minutes...
Transfer on to a grease absorbent paper and press the spices down to remove the excess oil...
Grind in to a fine powder...
Store in an air tight container...
Use 3 to 4 tbsp of this powder or as mentioned in the recipe to make sambar..
This recipe makes approximately 240 grams of sambar powder...
